If you want to build a better life, then you need to have fun. After all, if you’re not having fun, what’s the point? Here’s a way to find fun things to do everyday, even when you’re doing things you don’t want to do.
Flying Squids and Making the Most of Your Job
I’m not a fan of flying squids. It might be the eerie way they look, flying around like ninjas in the darkened sky. Perhaps it’s the way their tentacles drift behind them as they fly, their giant bat wings flapping almost silently.
Or it could be that they love to sneak up behind you, envelop you in their suction-lined tentacles, fly high into the sky, then drop you into Lake Larry for a laugh. Who’s to say?
Now, I’m no sucker, but I’ve been accosted more than once by these dive-bomb demons, hearing them snickering in squid while I plummeted to earth. Falling from that great height gave me a lot of time to think. I spent a good portion of it screaming, but I soon came to a realization.
The thing I realized is that these suspended cephalopods were just doing their job. Sure, much like their tentacles, their job sucked, but it was their job nonetheless. They had found a way to enjoy what they did. They had found fun things to do everyday, it just involved more involuntary bladder response than most jobs require.
Find Fun Things to Do Everyday
You don’t have to be a sadistic squid to enjoy your day. You can find fun things to do everyday. The trick is to follow three simple steps:
- Add Fun: Find ways to inject fun activities into your day.
- Make Things Fun: Take the things you have to do and make them fun.
- Set Aside Time for Fun: Make having time to enjoy life an immovable part of your day.
Here’s how you do it.
You need to find ways to add fun things to do into your day. Your life shouldn’t just be about work or being productive. It should also be about enjoying life.
Find ways to add fun to your day. You can learn a new skill, come up with a creative project, or give someone you haven’t talked to in awhile a call. What’s something you’ve really wanted to do, but haven’t? You can add fun just by daydreaming about it. In fact, you may just start making plans to do it.
You don’t just have to add fun things to do everyday. You can also make things you already do fun.
Make Things Fun
When you are working, enjoyment will take you a lot farther. It’s one of the best ways to get motivated to work. It’s one thing to try to fill 100 boxes with stuff. It’s another to make it a race and see how quickly you can fill ten. There are lots of ways to make boring things into things you like to do, like having a fun at work day.
You can make work a game, add some music or some great conversation with coworkers, or come up with any number of great ideas to make your work fun and add fun things to do everyday into your work. By changing chores into fun activities, you can accomplish more and have fun doing it.
Of course, you have to make sure that you make time for fun.
Set Aside Time for Fun
Even if you’re one of those people who feel like they always need to be productive, think of it like this: you are built to need to recharge. You are built to need enjoyment or you burnout. Having fun is being productive. It makes it easier to get your tasks done, be more passionate about what you do, and be more productive.
That’s why you need to find fun things to do everyday – because you’re built to need that. Not only that, but our brains work in modes. When you’re in task completion mode, your brain is less creative. When you’re disengaged, your mind has the ability to wander and start imagining new ways of accomplishing things and making your world better.
You can make life more rewarding even if you’re being dropped from the stratosphere by a malevolent mollusk when you add fun things to do everyday. Add fun activities into your day, make the thing you do fun, and make sure to set aside time for fun. It’s a great way to improve your life.
